DIVING THE QURIMBAS ISLANDS

Diving the Qurimbas Islands – Your questions answered

3 September 2014

Can I dive all year round?

It is possible to dive the Quirimbas Islands all year round! All you need is some sun, some warm blue ocean depths and some nice calm, flat seas on the surface. This means that you can plan your diving holiday in the summer time – or in the winter when it is slightly cooler but windy.

The whales arrive in the Ilha Quirimbas between August and October and it is truly incredible to see these gentle giants breach, sail and lob tail, and listen to their sublime music underwater.  During the rest of the year, you can join us for mind-boggling sightings of Reef sharks, Turtles, Dolphins, huge Grouper and Napoleon Wrasse. The reefs are extremely pristine and beautiful, so there is always plenty to see!

Do I need to be certified before I arrive?

No, you do not. IboIsland has a resident Dive Instructor based at its activity centre, Dive Quirimba’s, who offers you a choice of try dives, courses and dive experiences. This also happens on Quilalea, Vamizi and MedjumbeIslands. While Dive Quirimbas is based at Ibo Island Lodge, it does offer diving to anyone visiting and staying on Ibo.

Do I need my own equipment?

Yes and no! Dive Quirimba’s always advises guests to bring their own masks and fins but this is not essential. Dive Quirimba’s has a full range of Scubapro gear to kit you out with!

Do I need to pre-book my dives?

This is not essential but it is highly recommended – so that you avoid disappointment. Dive Quirimba’s offers dive packages which take you diving on local and distant reefs. Contact divequirimbas@iboisland.com for more info or visit www.divequirimbas.com for the latest prices.

Do I need diving insurance?

Yes you do. Most travel insurance packages usually include diving, but please check this before you travel so that you know that you are covered when you arrive in the Quirimbas.
